Yeah! Back from Berlin. I had a wonderful time laughing and taking in the sights with my friend Greta and her family. I walked and biked all over Berlin and went to museums, galleries, cafes, gardens and the Berlin philharmonic. It was very rejuvenating and I am ready to get back in the studio!
"Perdida" the mermaid is 8x16 original acrylic on canvas and was my gift to Greta.
Hello! I forgot to mention that I was going to Berlin, Germany to visit my dear friend Greta from April 15-25. I am here now, just went running along the Spree River in the center of Berlin. It is spring here, green and beautiful. I am looking forward to visiting many of the galleries and museums. I will report back soon! ~ Melissa
Happy Easter! I couldn't help but paint this fiesty little rabbit leaping over his responsibilities and escaping easter! It is an acrylic painting on gallery wrapped 9x12 canvas, so no frame is needed. $225. Please contact me if you are interested. It has lots of fun texture and was inspired by Ukrainian egg designs.
It's happy hour! I am painting again, and glad to be doing so. "Copper River Salmon 1" has both paint and tiffany green patina on hand hammered copper. There is a hook on the back so that he can hang on a wall, and a UV varnish to protect the finish. It is approximately 9"x 14" and is $195. My happy crow is acrylic on a 10"x20" gallery wrapped canvas. The border is wrapped over both sides and there is no need for a frame. $385. Please contact me if you are interested in either piece.
Even though it is a little warmer in Spokane, there is not yet much blooming. Still our little pussy willow tree has soft yellow whisps upon it... and they whisper of spring. This little painting is an 8x16 acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas for $200. Please contact me if you are interested in it.
Well... I had a very nice weekend visit with my mom. We had a lot of fun, but I didn't get much art work done! So here is a picture that our photographer friend Stuart took at the Tinman Gallery opening of Brandon and me. Please see http://www.tinmanartworks.com/ (featured artist) to see more of my work currently in the show until April 25th. I will be doing an artist demonstration on April 11th from 1-3pm Hope to see you there.
Finally getting back to the studio...I painted this lazy little bear "Cheerio Bear", 5x6 on gallery wrapped canvas, $95. and had fun with a new copper crow. I was happy with how the patina worked on this hanging copper sculpture, approximately 5"x 8" for $65. SOLDTomorrow my mom comes to visit for the weekend-hooray! If you are interested in either of these pieces, please contact me.

Artist Melissa Cole often finds herself snorkeling with salmon, smooching manatees, and swimming with tiger sharks. It is from these amazing encounters that she derives much of the inspiration for her vividly colored, heavily textured and patterned acrylic paintings.
Cole was born in Oregon and raised in London, Hong Kong, and India. She graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Zoology and spent time as a naturalist guide in Mexico. She’s written over 30 children’s natural history books and travels with her husband Brandon, who is a wildlife photographer specializing in marine life. Melissa has always dabbled in art, but has spent the last ten years fully devoted to it. She is strongly influenced by ethnic patterns, which she sees in her travels abroad. “You’ll find lots of dots, and a distinct border pattern in each of my pieces.” Her work is found in galleries ranging from Stephan Fine Arts in Anchorage, Alaska to The Wild Side Gallery in Key West, Florida.
